Rethink your Retirement Income

I know I'm concerned about Retirement Savings. How about you?

Are you saving too much? Here's how to look beyond the formulas.

The only hard-and-fast rule for how much retirement income you will need is that there is no hard-and-fast rule.

The financial industry's typical rule of thumb—which states that retirees need to save enough to be able to replace 75% to 85% of their preretirement income every year after they stop working—isn't really useful for many people.

New research shows that many retirees can live well on less than that but others rack up higher expenses through travel, expensive hobbies or medical costs that can't be avoided......

Best Places to Retire 2013

This post is the compilation of my personal research and analysis. My wife and I currently live in St. George, Utah, but are looking for a change.

While St. George has many pluses, we are seeking a new retirement town that would result in:

1. A generally milder climate year round.
2. More and better access modern culture, exercise and recreation opportunities.
3. A larger, more sophisticated population to support our Organic/Healthy living business endeavors.
4. Reasonably Low cost of living especially for housing.

Forbes offers their top 25 places to retire in 2013 HERE

Of the large cities, I am most curious about Austin and San Antonio, Texas.
Other Forbes suggestions that pique my interest are Asheville, NC, and various Florida locations like Fort Meyers. South Carolina may hold some positive surprises as well.

I would sure appreciate to hear comments, pros and cons of my 3 picks, and/or hear about your top picks.

Best Wishes, Dave and Irina.

17 Year Old Girl Codes to Google Win

Brittany Wenger, a high-school senior, is well on her way to making the diagnosis of breast cancer less painful and more accurate. Wenger began studying neural networks when she was in the seventh grade. And this year, she won the grand prize in the 2012 Google Science Fair for her project, “Global Neural Network Cloud Service for Breast Cancer.” The resulting Cloud4Cancer service aggregates data from biopsies done with the fine-needle aspiration process, instead of the traditional and more painful surgical option. The goal of Wenger’s network is to ensure that fine-needle aspiration biopsies are as accurate as traditional biopsies, which would allow more women to be diagnosed and treated early. In preliminary trials, the service has achieved 99.11 percent sensitivity to malignancy, and its over 7.6 million trials have demonstrated the network improves as more data is deposited. And because it is delivered as a cloud service, Cloud4Cancer is built to support usage by every hospital in the world.
